Capitalism didn’t give you that, nor did the government.

Thank Gaia that we’ve managed to maintain a historical thread of reality through the last century, however timid and broken it may be. There are answers in the history explored below, a long forgotten history that we’ve been coerced into negating. This whispers to the common sense of the community and the village within us; the inclination that leads one to turn to her/his neighbors for help and information before turning to the the state authorities or the closest blaring talking box—because you still know your neighbors and what they go through. Remember that impulse based on instinct? Capitalism didn’t give you that, nor did the government.

Just trying to get through the day without too many assholes…

Debating a republican friend of mine. We all have them; decent people who otherwise regurgitate every insipidly dumb thing spewed into the so-called public airwaves by FOX and talk radio idiots. I have thoughts on ISIS and what should be done them. I lean towards military action as part of a spectrum of responses, but the more I see ex-generals who lead our nations soldiers to lunches in the PX or pushing papers in Washington on FOX extolling the need for more war, the less I prefer military options. Especially when everyone of these ex-generals is on the board of weapons industry companies. http://www.thenation.com/article/181601/generals-pundits-tk-tk. When Jack Keane, advisor to Academi(formerly Blackwater) and a board member of weapons contractor General Dynamics and Anthony Zinni, outside Director of the “global dense, aerospace and security company” BAE Systems, turn up on FOX pushing for massive military intervention I feel like I’m being played.

Seal the borders, double security at all airports, watch who comes and goes from all Mosques, says my friend. We might have to reopen the camps again! Ship them all home or force them to convert like Sarah Palin says. They’re here, he says. ISIS is streaming across the border in Mexico. I heard it on FOX! And they all have Ebola!

When I reply he’s being a bit paranoid, and that we risk damaging the trust of Muslim neighbors, and perhaps terrifying them-many who have faced genocide and inter-ethnic or national violence in their previous homes-into believing that America is no different than the rest of the world, he was undeterred. The enemy is here! Religion of peace? Ha! There are 1.6 billion Muslims, and if 10% want to kill us…it took him a while to do the math…that means 160 million Muslims! You Liberals, he froths, just don’t get that we are threatened from without and from within.

I say first of all, no offense, but you’re an idiot. It’s alright, he calls me an idiot sometimes too. He’s just wrong about it though. The 10% is made up. There never have been any poles. That was a number Sean Hannity and other right wingers began repeating as if there had been a study done. Never has been. Never was. No such number. And don’t send me this article or that estimate. they are simply repeating the same falsehood. And if 10% of Muslims do hate us, guaranteed it started after 2003 when Bush and Cheney and the right decided to make all this mess about religion rather than about a broader issue of justice.

Second, I tell him, though he’s sort of still seething from the idiot remark, he wants to look at everything as a chicken little, good cowboy/bad cowboy sort of way: Muslims bad, Americans(and Israel) good. Rather, this is how I view the world. The fat white guy who cut me off in his Hummer with an up-raised middle finger a half hour ago is far more of an immediate threat to me and my day than ISIS. the right wing Tea Party idiot in congress, like Texas republican Jack Carter, who votes to slash food stamps to hungry families but approves of hundreds of billions going to corporations is way more of a threat to me than ISIS. the cop who pepper sprays a young girl for protesting proven illegal foreclosures by bankers who will never see a day in jail and will likely be paid a bonus is an exponentially greater threat to me than ISIS. Likewise, the Senator saying the science isn’t in on the climate crisis, with oil company money in his pocket is, well…

ISIS is a danger, so are white supremacists, fascist vegans, fascist Christians, drunken Cubs fans who piss everywhere in the neighborhood, fascist Jews, bigots, the lady at the grocery store who was a complete bitch last night, the retired white guy who thinks the gas station where I’ve just run in for gas while trying to get to work is his own private lottery casino, people who use Socialist as a pejorative, Liberals who dodge the word liberal, people who call themselves libertarians without knowing what the word really means(hint, it isn’t a republican without religion), the Arab guy racing through traffic ala Baghdad driving rules yesterday, people who don’t pick up after their dogs, anyone in the Tea party, 44.5% of the Democrat party, 69.8% of the Republicans, Black guys who become president and then bend over backwards to be white, anyone left or right who starts an argument with “the founding fathers…” or “Thomas Jefferson once said…”, ex-congressmen who become radio hosts and people who blame women for being hit or sexually assaulted. And, above all I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate BULLIES! Of any kind.

the real threats to my life and existence and the happiness of my wife and family boils down to one simple club. It’s a big club, and I spend my days either doing my damnedest to avoid them or fight against them. I know they exist, but they aren’t just in Iraq and Syria right now, they are everywhere. Hell, I admit to being one from time to time. The world would be so much better if we all realized that simple fact, and stopped subdividing these people down to this group or that group and simply called them out for the collective misery they perpetrate on the rest of us.

Until that day I am just trying to get through my day without dealing with assholes. When they pop up and refuse to go away then the world hammers them back into the dark hole they came from…

Are you $%#@ing kidding me? A new rant from the FILTHY PUNDIT(He ought to have his mouth washed out with soap) Politics, way over the %$#@ing top!……………….. Sean Hannity: “I am ashamed of my country.’ The same Sean Hannity and others on the Right who admonished and destroyed the career of the Dixie Chicks for criticizing George Bush in a foreign country, and who regularly berate Michelle Obama for saying America’s racist past bothered her are openly proclaiming how pathetic and ashamed of the country they are. Hannity, who is currently being wined and dined and pampered in staged photo and camera ops by the Israeli IDF repeatedly bad-mouthed the United States and its government to his IDF and Israeli nationalist hosts. Others, like fired Rep. Joe Walsh, (Toilet Paper party, Illinois), openly proclaimed his allegiance to Israel, a foreign nation, over his American homeland. Walsh and others in the corporate media are the beneficiaries of lavish all expense paid trips to Israel, and in some instances are paid directly or indirectly through pro-Israeli interests. The effort is a concerted strategy to propagandize to the American people by a foreign power, and act which used to be illegal. The effort by Israeli interests to buy so-called news and talk show personalities such as Hannity, Walsh and others is simply a naked and the most recent evidence that our media and government are for sale to the highest bidder, which automatically excludes the American citizen and voter. The American television viewer, radio listener and newspaper reader is constantly bombarded with messaging about the infallibility of American policy, hegemony and national interest, except in the case of Israel. Here the American public is fed and messaged towards supporting without question the policies of a foreign power over and above American interests. Behind the mask and white Christian apocalypse porn is a fear that Thomas Jefferson, Washington and John Adams and many founding fathers openly expressed: being manipulated by a foreign power. It is happening now with leaders and pundits who are supposed to put America first… Not Filthy this time, just the plain truth.

Obama’s one time $12.3 billion request for immigrants will cost every single American $2.77 per month for a year, the cost of a small Starbucks Latte. The Pentagon’s $680 billion annual budget will cost every American $153 each month, or what a minimum wage worker makes in three days-before taxes. The war in Iraq cost every American $8108, the cost of a middle class family’s weekly grocery bill for one whole year. If you believe in the right to life, which best satisfies that question?

Updated: Don’t Be A DemAss Part 1

#DownWithDemAsses

“Abstract promises about increased jobs and exports misrepresent the real overall effects of trade on the U.S. economy. Trade both creates and destroys jobs. While exports tend to support domestic employment, imports lead to job displacement: As imports are substituted for domestically produced goods, production that supports domestic jobs falls, displacing existing jobs and preventing new job creation.” (source)

So, we here at Revolution and Beer don’t wear anyone’s jersey but our own. There is a very cultish atmosphere surrounding Hillary Clinton’s (#Hillary2016) prospects of a 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. It a bit frightening, and it seems the behavior of this cult only promises to further isolate the working class from the Democratic Party, and mainstream political discourse. If you want to see what kinds of creatures step into fill those voids, look at what’s happened in North Carolina. Hell, look at the leadership produced by the Tea Party movement.

As my father used to say, “never trust a fanatic of any kind.” That’s straight from the mouth of a true believer in our government, longtime government employee, and committed democrat. I, of course, did not come out that way.

Yesterday, I got banned from a page supporting democrats in 2016 (actually, just Hillary I learned) for asking questions. I grew up in a small town in the south, and witnessed first hand what happened as NAFTA was being implemented, and big tobacco was being pursued in court. It was devistating to the small town economy, and leads me to a mantra that many of my good friends are familiar with: “The South may never vote another Clinton into office.” Admittedly, this is a personal soar part for me. I’ve had many other experiences as I’ve ventured into Mexico, and formed deep friendships with the real left in this country. All of these experiences have lead me to denounce the neo-liberal, right-leaning policies that were brought into the mainstream political spectrum by Clinton and the like. It lead me to support Nader in 2000 (I know, booooo!!! I lost Gore the election). However, this first-hand experience; which became very personal as my father lost his non-profit job and went to work in the few remaining manufacturing plants as a temp worker, has always been my main reason for turning a cocked-eye to knee-jerk support for #Hillary2016… until I ran into this:

demasses-part1

I was speaking from my heart; my queries were sincere. There are typos, and I wasn’t citing sources, but planned to return and provide them. This is very real to me.

When I asked why one of them was punctuating every sentence with exclamation points, I was accused of insulting him, and they pretty much swarmed on me. There were some great off-thread posts on the page specifically targeted at me, and I started getting private messages from David Simms, who is an admin for the page. If you want dirt on centrist democrats, and you want to see how they’re followers are no better than the tea-party ideologues they claim so much to despise, I highly recommend this page.

Part 2 will be the “chat” I had with David Simms, who banned me from the group. I did get rather angry during that one. I’ve never actually intentionally trolled anyone, but I’m starting to feel inspired.

Revolution and Beer Reactionaries of the Week: The Right and The IRS

ROW_051413

If you could choose your form of retaliation from the state, which would you choose?

If you could see the thumb and forefingers of my left hand right now, they would be rubbing together in a slow circular motion. Know what that is? That’s me, playing the world’s smallest violin as I weep for Tea Party groups that may have been audited, or were simply looked askance at by the IRS. That’s right, I said askance, because I like that word and rarely get to use it in conversation.

So here’s the deal, over the weekend the story broke that the IRS had targeted rightwing groups and Tea Party groups before the election. While I’m not prepared to let Obama off the hook for anything, let’s take a look at this with a bit less of a conspiratorial eye. And don’t give me “where there is smoke, there is fire,” blather. If that was true, then we can say that the IRS maybe didn’t look close enough at some of these so-called grassroots Tea Party groups, you know the ones who liked to call Citizens United free speech. Well, it still remains to be seen whether all that these groups got from parents, Dick Armey and Karl Rove, were rightwing talking points.

Please don’t dwell on the imagery of Dick and Karl actually conceiving the Tea Party. I did by accident, and now I can’t get it out of my head. Oh God, make it stop!

The cries of “foul” by the right fall hollow pretty quickly. Particularly thin is their offense at being profiled by the IRS, especially since the Right has defended the use of profiling with regards to Muslim men, Blacks and Hispanics (and let’s not forget the left as a whole). By that same standard, all of the sudden “patriot” this and “heartland” that, all the slack-jawed spawn of FreedomWorks, American Crossroads or even MoveOn.org, the Heritage foundation and other rightwing pseudo-corporations should surely have thrown up potential red flags to tax auditors. Going into an election, with the scam-artist money changing scheme that in reality is Citizens United, how could anyone not be at least suspicious of shenanigans?

Photo from truthout.org

Photo from truthout.org: “On January 21, 2011, activists in Washington, DC, rally for a constitutional amendment that would overturn the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling. (Photo: Public Citizen)”

After Citizens United, these sham 501c3 TAX EXEMPT groups covered the national political lanscape thicker than fat flies on manure, like stink on a monkey or pimples on a gamer’s butt cheeks. We started a 501c3 on Chicago’s south side called HelpHouseChicagoHomelessPeople that actually helped people, rather than serve as a payday loan alternative to millionaire politicians pandering to your affinity for Nascar. These front groups for the exchange of political fortunes hide behind veneers of “freedom” or “liberty,” or some other crap. The socially, ethically, and politically lazy reactionaries adorn themselves with flags and lapel pins (and the forever-redundant race-baiting picket-signs) and do nothing positive to improve the nation, its dialogue, or its future.

And you have likely heard the leftwing and so-called Progressives chattering about many of these points. They don’t get off that easy. They were also playing this political spit-swap game, but not nearly to the extent of the Tea Party groups–perhaps because they just aren’t as good at it. There is, however, one glaring difference between the Tea Party and Occupy with regard to all this. You’ll only find it here, and it is this: so the Tea Party was audited, perhaps profiled, more frequently than left-leaning groups. Now you have an idea of what it is like to be Black in America. I guess you could say that some TEA Party organizations got an audit for supporting austerity, and going so far as to condemn the very existence of “Government.”  You could also throw-in spewing rhetorical myths of our favorite “free-market” ideologues–which provides some astroturf cover for the banks and institutions that are robbing us blind. Occupy was beaten, censored, subjected to false arrests and trumped up charges and had their civil rights trampled for accusing the banks, challenging government/corporate incest and for defending the poor. I weep for your butt-hurt, reactionaries. Must be tough, huh?

But this point makes it abundantly obvious that the Tea Party, the Right and Republicans…and I’ll throw some Lefties in there as well…are not really about up-holding the Constitution for all without it being tipped in their favor. They are not about defending civil rights, only their individual rights and privilege. They aren’t really for Americans, but for themselves. The irony is, the people who were fighting for those things got hammered by the Democrats, the media, and the right. They were mocked and ridiculed and harassed, but no one made a sound about that. They still haven’t, because for too many in this nation it is still about selfish interests and not about their neighbors.

Suck this one up TEA Partiers. The dis-proportionality of “persecution” here is pretty obvious. You got played. Now, time to figure out who you should actually be pissed at. Maybe you’ll actually start looking at candidates on both sides of the isle and beyond for who they really are, and not for the slogans they shout, or the feel good barf they feed you. Time to realize that getting involved in your government goes beyond blindly waving a flag at a WWF match, smashing a Keystone Beer can against your forehead while waving a gun and snarling in some tribal grunt, “Don’t mess wit America!”
