The Coming Genocide in America.

Walsh cut me off quickly. For months he has refused to debate me on Islam. He is a liar, and now, along with people like Pamela Geller, he is an agent in a coming genocide in the United States against Muslims. He thanked god for the second amendment, and after grossly misleading and largely invented numbers, asked what his listeners were prepared to do. The insinuation to violence appears most obvious. I am catholic. Walsh has never been in combat. I have.ResizeImageHandler

The Left is too weak and ill-informed to recognize the Right is rushing the country towards violence. 20 years in the Balkans, including 3 during the various wars as Yugoslavia broke apart, and a front row seat to the Rwandan Genocide, with hundreds of interviews and two decades of study; I have learned the mechanics of Genocide. I have seen this before. The Right isn’t inventing something new: the template always works.

The cornerstone of any genocide is the media. Control of the media and the message are paramount. It is the carrying system of the nationalists. There are 14420 radio stations in the United States, excluding FM booster and low power stations. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 opened the door for wholesale media consolidation. With that consolidation, conglomerates tied directly to right wing agendas and candidates own more than 90% of radio stations. Profitable and successful shows like Stephanie Miller have been cancelled and replaced with unprofitable programming. FOX News, in order to gain market share lost hundreds of millions for years, something that shareholders for companies owning MSCBC and CNN would not have tolerated. That is a takeover.

How influential is radio in the United States? Radio reaches daily about 80% of the US population, generating annual revenue of about $20 billion, more than double since 1990. Rush Limbaugh was paid 400 million through 2016, or about $38 million annually. It is virtually impossible to find a prominent Right wing talk show host who is not a millionaire. Speaking for “everyman,” Sean Hannity makes $30 million annually, with a net worth twice that. Revenue through 2020 for radio is forecast at $13.5 billion annually in the US alone, against online radio revenue worldwide, according to Radio Internet Advertising News(RAIN) of $1.5 billion in 2017.

The nationalists are led by a small number of individuals with other designs. Genocide is a means to an end, not the end itself. The end is the control of the nation, its wealth and the elimination of adversaries and critics . the set up begins much earlier. The formula is time tested, from medieval European dynasties through to Kemal Atta Turk and the Armenians to the Nazis, Saddam and the Kurds, Rwanda, Bosnia and every other nationalist movement. It is nakedly transparent in virtually everything on rightwing radio, the GOP and their current crop of presidential candidates. The corporate angle cannot be overstated here.
There must be an idealized and largely fictitious ethnic, religious or racial group, an internal betrayer and an eternal enemy. For the Third Reich, it was the so-called Aryans that were idealized, with Soviets as the external enemy, and Jews/Bolsheviks as the internal betrayers. The Serbs, fictionalizing the 12th Century invasion by the Ottoman Turks described Bosnians as the betrayer. During the Rwandan Genocide, it was the media that drove and directed the slaughter of 800,000 mainly Tutsis. In Bosnia a Serb dominated press actually broadcast kill lists of Muslims. Right wing talk host Michael Savage support has offered support for the Serbian cause, which saw the cumulative slaughter of more than 150,000 Muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo. It works every time, and it is coming to American at warp speed.

The tragedy in garland was a staged event. In the opinion of the writer, Pamela Geller was likely hoping something would happen, though she is unlikely to ever admit that sort of dastardly intent. I witnessed at the start of the Bosnian conflict how the Serbian Press would conflate the mundane or manufacture events to feed nationalist and genocide narratives.

Walsh’s invocation and pretend chicken hawk outrage regarding the second amendment solution to his listeners is haunting to someone who has seen two genocides, and whom is married to someone who survived a genocide. The messaging is becoming increasingly provocative daily on right wing talk radio. The intent is to control and incite when the time comes.

The Messaging Game

We like to complain about the corporate media, but too few of us support independent media. Across the internet, low power AM and FM stations, cable access and in publishing a great many have risen to take up the challenge first heralded more than 40 years ago by Gil Scott Herron’s “The Revolution will not be televised,” and reinvigorated by the Occupy Movement.

There are reasons for that. The high profile so-called Progressive media sources, like Al Gore, NPR, MSNBC and others on an all too short list have either betrayed true progressives and liberals, or attempted to co-opt them altogether for nakedly partisan purposes. Discontent among young voters who flocked to groups like Occupy, or environmental groups, or the I can’t breathe justice rights issue was abandoned or mocked by the democrats, revealing pure political motivations while abandoning the real base of the Progressive and Political movements.

Commentator Thom Hartmann has brought a pale indignation, and who can sit through another ill-prepared debate he holds with a right winger who reveals Hartmann’s willingness to go to great links in bending to the illusion of “gentlemanly” dialogue. Leslie Marshall couldn’t suck up to right wing propagandist Sean Hannity more in her desire for face time on FOX. Ed Schultz, who during the Madison protests in 2010-11, emerged as possibly challenging the media hegemony of the right is now all but…no, he’s forgotten. Stephanie Miller’s cogent arguments, when she attempts to make one at all largely amounts to her saying “Duh!” MSNBC simply is moving the nation to the right more slowly and under the costume of progressivism. The nominally progressive WCPT recently lost the only environmental show in Chicago, hosted by Mike Nowak, creating a monumental void in an already underrepresented segment of the market. NPR and the local Chicago community channel WTTW have all swung decidely to the right, wishing not to confront or run afoul of the right wing, corporate coup in washington DC.

Nowhere in this so-called liberal media are substantive discussions on climate change, race and immigrant justice, XL keystone, Enbridge, net neutrality or the TPP. the abandonment of those issues by the dems, I believe, has driven many from the party.

Hopeless? Not so much. Messaging however requires the involvement of citizens on several fronts. The first is in fighting to protect internet neutrality. It is the last true media still available for the unfettered, unfiltered voice of the people. Second, is to support and engage local, non-corporate and alternative media. Tune in. It is easier than you can imagine now. Access to Q4 radio can be done now from virtually any device. I listen daily in the car from my smart phone. There are others in Chicago as well, creating some of the most interesting, best informed and innovative programming on the air. Or you could listen to the same old boring crap on Chicago radio; all of it careful scripted and crafted to follow editorial dictates by media magnates in bed with one of the two political parties dominating power and money and messaging in America.

Finally, the Left muust learn to message like the right. Here is where we win. Here is the perfect opportunity to be a smart ass, because behind our sarcasm are deep truths and realities. Behind their flimsy bumper sticker lines are veiled ideals of greed and privilage, and a fundamental inhumanity that leaves the poor, the minorities, the elderly and the handicapped depserate, forgotten and abandoned.

They like phrases like Reagan’s smug retort, as he and his administration laid the groundwork for the slow and careful corporate take over of our nation and the theft of its wealth-from the mouths and pockets of the people. “The scriest words in the English language, I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” Hmm, you mean like FEMA, the CDC, Social Security, the FAA, paved roads and safe food?

maybe if we shot back with equal disdain and smarminess, like: “I’m from the government and I’ve been sold to the highest bidder!”

How about, I’m from the corporation and I’m selling you what you once got for your tax dollars.”

Perhaps this, I’m from the corporation and I get paid twice, once in subsidies and also from you!”

Or there’s this: I’m from the mega-church and I’m here to help; please surrender your soul.”

And my favorite: “I’m from the media and I’m the millionaire who speaks for the middle class.”

Race Baiting and Ferguson. All about gun sales?

Sadly, they are getting too easy to predict, but that still doesn’t seem to mitigate the danger the NRA poses to American democracy. By all appearances the media and NRA are eagerly stoking the flames of racial animosity, and even violence as a means of reversing flagging gun sales in 2014. Earlier this year in a Revolution and Beer exclusive, Rand Paul’s effort to pass legislation requiring every licensed commercial pilot in America to carry a weapon was exposed as a naked scheme to boost gun sales. In Paul, the NRA has bought and paid for a ready and willing political ally.

Prior to Newtown the NRA invested $294 thousand dollars in purchasing members of Congress, or more than $21 million since 1990. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/guns/how-much-did-nra-pay-senators-who-killed-gun-background-checks Both then Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Rand Paul benefitted greatly from the NRA’s abundant, string’s attached generosity. That does not include tens of millions in political advertisements which were often conveniently placed to support specific candidates. In fact, all of those Senators which appeared on FOX and on rightwing media decrying any reasonable gun control legislation, like Ted Cruz, James Inhofe, Roy Blunt, Jim Risch, Chuck Grassly and Saxby Chambliss, to name a few, received thousands in donations from the NRA.

After reading and re-reading the Ferguson Grand Jury testimony and evidence, I was perplexed at the blatant misrepresentation by talk show hosts on the right, like Sean Hannity, Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh. Revolution and Beer has remained very close to the Brown case, and was first to question the initial reports that Officer Darren Wilson suffered serious injuries during the altercation with Brown. Then in a CNN article following this years Black Friday sales, this line jumped out:

“Traditionally, Black Friday is one of our busiest days for transaction volume,” Fischer said.
Indeed, Friday saw the highest number of background checks ever for a Black Friday, and second in history. The highest day on record was December 21, 2012, with more than 177,000 background checks.”
http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/28/us/black-friday-gun-sales/index.html

Recognize that date, December 21st, 2012? Just 7 days earlier Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown Connecticut and fatally shot 20 children and 6 adults. Recall that the rightwing media reacted swiftly against gun control proponents, and rumors circulated allegedly by the NRA or its surrogates of gun grabs and bans.

In August, Businessweek reported on steeply slumping guns sales. Gunmaker Smith and Wesson had seen 2nd quarter sales dropping 23%, with profits suffering at 45% Other gunmakers suffered similarly. More and more the politically motivated industry has looked to the NRA, once a sportsman’s organization, to act instead as the marketing wing for the industry. For the NRA, whose best marketing tool is FOX News and rightwing talk radio that effort is manifest in manipulating the aftermaths of America’s darkest and bloodiest moments. Although I reject the word, that has to about as close to evil as one can get.

Just trying to get through the day without too many assholes…

Debating a republican friend of mine. We all have them; decent people who otherwise regurgitate every insipidly dumb thing spewed into the so-called public airwaves by FOX and talk radio idiots. I have thoughts on ISIS and what should be done them. I lean towards military action as part of a spectrum of responses, but the more I see ex-generals who lead our nations soldiers to lunches in the PX or pushing papers in Washington on FOX extolling the need for more war, the less I prefer military options. Especially when everyone of these ex-generals is on the board of weapons industry companies. http://www.thenation.com/article/181601/generals-pundits-tk-tk. When Jack Keane, advisor to Academi(formerly Blackwater) and a board member of weapons contractor General Dynamics and Anthony Zinni, outside Director of the “global dense, aerospace and security company” BAE Systems, turn up on FOX pushing for massive military intervention I feel like I’m being played.

Seal the borders, double security at all airports, watch who comes and goes from all Mosques, says my friend. We might have to reopen the camps again! Ship them all home or force them to convert like Sarah Palin says. They’re here, he says. ISIS is streaming across the border in Mexico. I heard it on FOX! And they all have Ebola!

When I reply he’s being a bit paranoid, and that we risk damaging the trust of Muslim neighbors, and perhaps terrifying them-many who have faced genocide and inter-ethnic or national violence in their previous homes-into believing that America is no different than the rest of the world, he was undeterred. The enemy is here! Religion of peace? Ha! There are 1.6 billion Muslims, and if 10% want to kill us…it took him a while to do the math…that means 160 million Muslims! You Liberals, he froths, just don’t get that we are threatened from without and from within.

I say first of all, no offense, but you’re an idiot. It’s alright, he calls me an idiot sometimes too. He’s just wrong about it though. The 10% is made up. There never have been any poles. That was a number Sean Hannity and other right wingers began repeating as if there had been a study done. Never has been. Never was. No such number. And don’t send me this article or that estimate. they are simply repeating the same falsehood. And if 10% of Muslims do hate us, guaranteed it started after 2003 when Bush and Cheney and the right decided to make all this mess about religion rather than about a broader issue of justice.

Second, I tell him, though he’s sort of still seething from the idiot remark, he wants to look at everything as a chicken little, good cowboy/bad cowboy sort of way: Muslims bad, Americans(and Israel) good. Rather, this is how I view the world. The fat white guy who cut me off in his Hummer with an up-raised middle finger a half hour ago is far more of an immediate threat to me and my day than ISIS. the right wing Tea Party idiot in congress, like Texas republican Jack Carter, who votes to slash food stamps to hungry families but approves of hundreds of billions going to corporations is way more of a threat to me than ISIS. the cop who pepper sprays a young girl for protesting proven illegal foreclosures by bankers who will never see a day in jail and will likely be paid a bonus is an exponentially greater threat to me than ISIS. Likewise, the Senator saying the science isn’t in on the climate crisis, with oil company money in his pocket is, well…

ISIS is a danger, so are white supremacists, fascist vegans, fascist Christians, drunken Cubs fans who piss everywhere in the neighborhood, fascist Jews, bigots, the lady at the grocery store who was a complete bitch last night, the retired white guy who thinks the gas station where I’ve just run in for gas while trying to get to work is his own private lottery casino, people who use Socialist as a pejorative, Liberals who dodge the word liberal, people who call themselves libertarians without knowing what the word really means(hint, it isn’t a republican without religion), the Arab guy racing through traffic ala Baghdad driving rules yesterday, people who don’t pick up after their dogs, anyone in the Tea party, 44.5% of the Democrat party, 69.8% of the Republicans, Black guys who become president and then bend over backwards to be white, anyone left or right who starts an argument with “the founding fathers…” or “Thomas Jefferson once said…”, ex-congressmen who become radio hosts and people who blame women for being hit or sexually assaulted. And, above all I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate BULLIES! Of any kind.

the real threats to my life and existence and the happiness of my wife and family boils down to one simple club. It’s a big club, and I spend my days either doing my damnedest to avoid them or fight against them. I know they exist, but they aren’t just in Iraq and Syria right now, they are everywhere. Hell, I admit to being one from time to time. The world would be so much better if we all realized that simple fact, and stopped subdividing these people down to this group or that group and simply called them out for the collective misery they perpetrate on the rest of us.

Until that day I am just trying to get through my day without dealing with assholes. When they pop up and refuse to go away then the world hammers them back into the dark hole they came from…

Are you $%#@ing kidding me? A new rant from the FILTHY PUNDIT(He ought to have his mouth washed out with soap) Politics, way over the %$#@ing top!……………….. Sean Hannity: “I am ashamed of my country.’ The same Sean Hannity and others on the Right who admonished and destroyed the career of the Dixie Chicks for criticizing George Bush in a foreign country, and who regularly berate Michelle Obama for saying America’s racist past bothered her are openly proclaiming how pathetic and ashamed of the country they are. Hannity, who is currently being wined and dined and pampered in staged photo and camera ops by the Israeli IDF repeatedly bad-mouthed the United States and its government to his IDF and Israeli nationalist hosts. Others, like fired Rep. Joe Walsh, (Toilet Paper party, Illinois), openly proclaimed his allegiance to Israel, a foreign nation, over his American homeland. Walsh and others in the corporate media are the beneficiaries of lavish all expense paid trips to Israel, and in some instances are paid directly or indirectly through pro-Israeli interests. The effort is a concerted strategy to propagandize to the American people by a foreign power, and act which used to be illegal. The effort by Israeli interests to buy so-called news and talk show personalities such as Hannity, Walsh and others is simply a naked and the most recent evidence that our media and government are for sale to the highest bidder, which automatically excludes the American citizen and voter. The American television viewer, radio listener and newspaper reader is constantly bombarded with messaging about the infallibility of American policy, hegemony and national interest, except in the case of Israel. Here the American public is fed and messaged towards supporting without question the policies of a foreign power over and above American interests. Behind the mask and white Christian apocalypse porn is a fear that Thomas Jefferson, Washington and John Adams and many founding fathers openly expressed: being manipulated by a foreign power. It is happening now with leaders and pundits who are supposed to put America first… Not Filthy this time, just the plain truth.

So Long Dinosaur Talk Radio. Long Live New Media!

This is a public proclamation: Political Talk Radio is dead. Good riddance! Strangely for an industry that prides itself on being the absolute forefront of information, and whose personalities regularly eschew so-called low information voters, it couldn’t be convinced of that fact despite that it is literally beating them over the head. By the way, it is beating them over the head. And I don’t say this lightly.

WC Turck

WC Turck

As the manager of a small and new low power AM start up in Chicago, and a current and former host with a sublime gift of B.S. my driving inspiration is not only to entertain and inform, but cut through the clutter of everything else packing the airwaves. The key there is innovation, and I am astounded as we emerge more and more into the market at the fundamental disdain for innovation in this industry. More than that, I am stunned at the absolute disregard and ignorance by programmers of a rapidly changing radio audience. Strangely, this is exactly where the industry began.

And this is where I began with talk radio, decades ago. I grew up on “Super CFL” and John “Records” Landecker’s “Boogie Checks” on WLS. By the Late 1970s I was hooked on Steve Dahl with “Disco Demolition” on FM radio in Chicago, and followed him and sidekick Garry Meir over to WLS again. The hook was a mix of Dahl’s radio soap opera home life and an irreverent take on the news of the day. By the 1980s I discovered a ranting but even keeled Bob Lassiter(copied unabashedly to the hilt by Michael Savage). I even found amusement in newcomer Rush Limbaugh’s anti-establishment “America held hostage,” shtick after the election of Bill Clinton, not yet aware of the political and ideological manufacturing of his emerging brand. Despite his nakedly conservative slant there still seemed balance to talk radio with hosts like Jay Marvin. Balance was quickly forced from the radio lexicon, and even Rush Limbaugh could hardly escape the irony that it was his pretend radio nemesis, Bill Clinton, who was instrumental in turning nearly all of broadcast radio into a propaganda tool for corporate messaging paraded as political discourse.

And so radio devolved from a true public medium into something fundamentally antithetical to real public interest. Worse, it abandoned real entertainment. But this is more about format than content. Content will follow one of two paths; it will be driven in a propagandistic way by entities who wish to manipulate the audience or the audience will support and drive content in a truly empowered consumer market. In a nation that remains politically moderate, socially liberal and financially conservative we have seen an industry move to message decidedly to the Right, so obviously offering true balance and debate has not been an industry standard. The collapse of talk radio’s audience amid a rise of internet radio and social media indicates that traditional grid-like formats is a thing of the past. That programmers and advertisers demand breaks at the :20 and :40 with a yammering talk host filling the entire content is chasing away key demographics.

I had this conversation with my retired neighbor the other day, explaining how audiences are changing. She isn’t comfortable with listening to radio on her phone or computer and prefers the radio. All of my younger activist friends listen exclusively on their iphones, tablets and smartphones. AM radio? And they may listen live, or grab the file/podcast to list or share later. They want texture, energy and something that holds their shorter attention span. My neighbor, who will likely not rush out or await to purchase the newest phone or smartpad, represents the audience talk radio is currently locked to. The audience of tomorrow is tuning out, losing interest and going elsewhere.

A fair amount of that has to do with politics. People over 50 tend to vote in higher numbers. When it is all about the politics, this demographic produces results as in votes. They will sit through hours of Limbaugh or Hannity or Beck, younger audiences, the ones that advertisers covet, will not. I can already hear the shouts and disagreements, but those are the dying cries of an industry trapped by convention. Advertisers pay the bills, right? Especially those of you on the Right or corporate side, suddenly it isn’t about the marketplace? Hmm.

The new audience wants texture, music, movement, a 3 or 5 minute segment with a personality on an issue, and 15 or 20 minutes for a great interview. In short they want a show, which is not what they are getting from blah-blah-blah talk radio currently.

The radio audience of tomorrow is already here, though almost nobody in the industry is listening to them. I have already worked out a sketch of what that landscape will look like. We’ve already begun crafting and instituting it at que4 radio in Chicago. It will revolutionize the industry and remake stations that are willing to evolve to the realities of a marketplace that is changing fundamentally. For those who don’t, we’ll look for your bones in the natural history museum beside the other dinosaurs!

Sean Hannity is a SnakeOil Salesman (Bakken that is)

snake-oil-salesman
Here we go with the carrot-dangling, smoke-blowing, shameless, self-righteous insults that get thrown at working-class people trying to stay employed like lit cigarette butts.

BREAKING NEWS!!! According to Sean Hannity, you unemployed folks out there would be gainfully employed; making between 70 and 100k a year, if you just moved to North Dakota.

Listen to Hannity’s big-tent solution.

As far as news reporting goes, I think this gentleman ought to get Hannity’s job:

Keystroke Lashing

And then there’s this lovely little reply to a request to connect from Job Bank head Kelly Blazek–ironically Cleveland’s “Communicator of the Year”:

“I love the sense of entitlement in your generation,” she wrote, then continued. “You’re welcome for your humility lesson for the year. Don’t ever reach out to senior practitioners again and assume their carefully curated list of connections is available to you, just because you want to build your network.”

And what did the “entitled” young lady do to deserve such a rotten keystroke lashing? She emailed Ms. Blazek asking to be added to her job board. Read the full story here.

I would like to add snakeoil salesman to Sean Hannity’s title. Also, I think Blazek just raised the bar on the definition of “rejection letter” quite drastically.
