The Nature Trigger, Global Climate Change and Fate

A series of stories are leading to a disturbing conclusion that nature may not be an ally, but an all too willing partner in the coming Global Climate Catastrophe, at least as far as human civilization is concerned. More and more evidence is coming to light that as human accelerated Global Warming, Or Anthropogenic Global Warming, AGW, environmental thresholds are reached. Each of these thresholds marks a tripwire in which the environment itself becomes the driver in AGW. Rather like a campfire which grows to become a firestorm, out of control, wholly independent and feeding itself from multiple sources, in which the terrain, atmosphere and forest (or homes) all become partners in the process.

Recent articles in earthtimes.org and Nature discussed the accelerated expulsion of carbon from the soil as Global temperatures increase. 2014 was the hottest year in recorded history. It is evidence that those thresholds or triggers are being reached. In the Nature article, Temperature sensitivity of soil respiration rates enhanced by microbial community response, taken from a number of studies discusses findings that “warming induced stimulation of soil microbial respiration rates could increase soil carbon dioxide emissions and hence induce a positive climate feedback effect…” and that, “…substantial carbon stores in Arctic and boreal soils could be more vulnerable to climate warming than currently predicted.” In other words the environment maintains stores of carbon which would otherwise be loosed to the atmosphere, making it warmer and less hospitable to life.

Satellite imagery recorded a record low in Arctic Sea ice in 2012. This year, due to continuing record low levels of sea ice more than 35,000 walrus came ashore in Alaska. The phenomenon was first reported in 2007, but the numbers this year are unprecedented. Alaska in 2014 recorded an unusually warm winter. Additional evidence also has emerged from previously unrealized effects of global climate change in Greenland which shows it is more vulnerable than previously believed. It is estimated that melting of Greenland glaciers releases 200gigatons of fresh water into the oceans annually. Antarctic is melting at a vastly accelerated rate as well, and though sea ice covers a wider area around Antarctic this year, it is feared that warming of the continent has spread ice over the wider area. There is also concern that it is the result of fresh water melting from glaciers. Fresh water freezes much easier than salt water. Fresh water and Sea water do not mix, but instead form layers and disrupts currents which in turn drives and affects weather. Rising sea levels will also impact aquifers, contaminating ground water essential for human consumption, crops and livestock. One can imagine the ramifications to society, the economy and instability worldwide.

Rush Limbaugh yesterday was cheering the absence of hurricanes striking Florida in the last 9 years, ignoring, of course, hurricane Sandy and other powerful storms striking Mexico or affecting the Atlantic. Lost to Limbaugh, and others how think narrowly in terms of the weather exactly where they are standing, is an alarming warming of the Atlantic ocean, and the historic super storms in the Pacific, like Hayan and VongFong, the two most powerful storms ever recorded on earth. Cancun was devastated by hurricane Wilma in 2005. This year hurricane Odile, the most intense cyclone to hit the region on in more than 4 decades, pummeled Cabo san Lucas.

Humanity has its own tripwires. We, as a species, are beyond the point of addressing Global Climate Change and now must look to adaptation. If we fail to heed that warning, the next may be survival, a partnership and community enterprise mankind shows itself daily to be incapable of doing rationally. The point here is not to create panic or hopelessness, but engender a deeper understanding of the supreme balance that allows for life to exist on this planet, and which allows for human life to exist. The evidence is clear, that with each passing day the planet reaches and crosses thresholds. With each line, each trigger we lose the chance to chart our own fate and instead enter into the disastrous realm of the unknown in which calamity and the chaos of global climate change decides our fate instead.

Suicide is Painless: Capitalism, the Right and Growing Old in America.

I read today that the journalist Fred Branfman died this week in Budapest at the age of 72. Reports are that he spent his time between southern California and Hungary. It reminded me of my time in Budapest in the early and mid 1990s, at a restaurant/bar I use to hang out in just off Rakoczi Avenue in Central Budapest. Branfman, of course is known for his coverage of the bombing of Cambodia and Laos during the Vietnam War. I recall that a tall, smirking ex-pat whose name I forgot amid the haze of years and copious amounts of beer brewed in the bar I have long since forgotten the man’s name.

Those were the days when Budapest was a bit edgier; still shaking off the dust and moroseness of the Soviet era. I was there 5 times, mostly in autumn and once in late winter. I recall the city in shades of gray, eternally damp and struggling between two identities. One was that old post-communist era exhaustion and the other the promise and anxiety of capitalism. No one was more concerned about entering that new world than retirees, or pensioners.

While there is little that extols any virtue in the communist system, the origins of that basic ideology was born of ancient communal societies, peasantry and extended family and tribal communes, none of which, except among native Americans was ever part of the American experience. One positive aspect of the Soviet system, at the very least was their basic care for the elderly. There was at least the basic provision for housing and income in communist countries. With the collapse of the Soviet system a vacuum occurred and capitalism flooded like Katrina into New Orleans to replace the communist economic system. Least prepared to weather that vacuum were the pensioners.

I recall seeing them, the elderly. There were little cantinas in cities throughout southern and eastern Europe in the early 90s. Here the poorest could get a cheap but warm meal, usually soup or cabbage or stew for a few Forint, the pre-Euro Hungarian currency. Nearly all of the patrons were elderly. I had visited a number throughout post-Communist Europe and found them to be terribly hopeless places. A communist official in the Milosevic regime in Belgrade, Serbia took me to one in the center of the city, where I had to literally shield my bowl of chicken stew from cockroaches running across the table. Governments bankrupted in the transition between once strongly and ideologically defined economic spheres slashed pensions. Even by 1992 and 93 there were stories of the elderly, no longer able to heat their homes after being all but cut off from pensions, like our social security, freezing to death in their apartments. Capitalism had come to Eastern Europe in the cruelest and saddest of ways.

Fast forward to the United States and I find a deafening silence about the fate of retired persons in this country. Companies have jettisoned pensions and this country has not put into place protections that would have seen adjustments for inflation to social security. 5 million, or about 10%, of the country’s impoverished are older than 65 years old. There are eight states that show higher than the US national average for food insecurity, with Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas leading the pack. But the problem is national, and is growing rapidly, products of demographics, the economy, but also a virtual abandonment of the elderly by government. While taxes are cut, forgotten or forgiven to corporations and the wealthy, leaving the top 10% of the nation holding more than 90% of the nation’s wealth, resources to protect the most vulnerable in our society have been siphoned off

That leaves many retirees in the nation now less interested in quality of life and more concerned with dignity in death. Is that where we’ve come? Listen to FOX News and they’ll tell you that the retirement age in America should be raised to 75, by people who have never worked 10 or 20 or 40 years in a physical working class job and drag themselves from a job into retirement with herniated disks, blown shoulders, shot knees, and who worked 60 hours a week with overtime to make the mortgage and afford insurance and now need a rest, or to spend time with grand kids and get caught up on a little time with the wife in these final few years.

America entered into a new economy from the 90s. Rather it was forced into a new economy. Before then people took a job believing, like marriage, they would remain there until retirement. Suddenly all of those young neo-capitalists were defining a new economy based on short-term returns, no loyalty and a predatory rationalism that allowed for the looting of 401ks and pensions. This group gave rise to the hedge fund managers and the generation of capitalists who went to war to loot the economy while the rest of us were stunned and distracted by September 11, Iraq and Afghanistan. They looted social security and then told us that it’s bankrupt, and when we fought back, they redoubled with SSI is going to be bankrupt, and the only way to keep from freezing in your apartment is to give it over to the capitalists.

Those who are just retiring, or about to be are from the generation that helped define the American dream. And now they have been betrayed. Their dreams of a future in which growing old gracefully or with respect and dignity have been stolen, just as surely as those Hungarian pensioners shivering in their unheated apartments or spending their last Forint at a soup kitchen. When America is defined, it is those people who must be considered.

What are we offering them? Are we offering any appreciation, any respect, or have we decided that the last years of our lives will be decided on who have and who have not? Frank Branfman died a modestly wealthy man in Budapest Hungary, his other home. He passed in dignity, without fearing what might happen to his pets, that all he worked for who be hauled out to a dumpster or sold in second hand stores anonymously. He never had to do the math of how to make ends meet with a monthly social security check, or hope that the cat would die first so that it wouldn’t be left alone. For too many of America’s seniors that is the hard truth, and that is wrong…

Just trying to get through the day without too many assholes…

Debating a republican friend of mine. We all have them; decent people who otherwise regurgitate every insipidly dumb thing spewed into the so-called public airwaves by FOX and talk radio idiots. I have thoughts on ISIS and what should be done them. I lean towards military action as part of a spectrum of responses, but the more I see ex-generals who lead our nations soldiers to lunches in the PX or pushing papers in Washington on FOX extolling the need for more war, the less I prefer military options. Especially when everyone of these ex-generals is on the board of weapons industry companies. http://www.thenation.com/article/181601/generals-pundits-tk-tk. When Jack Keane, advisor to Academi(formerly Blackwater) and a board member of weapons contractor General Dynamics and Anthony Zinni, outside Director of the “global dense, aerospace and security company” BAE Systems, turn up on FOX pushing for massive military intervention I feel like I’m being played.

Seal the borders, double security at all airports, watch who comes and goes from all Mosques, says my friend. We might have to reopen the camps again! Ship them all home or force them to convert like Sarah Palin says. They’re here, he says. ISIS is streaming across the border in Mexico. I heard it on FOX! And they all have Ebola!

When I reply he’s being a bit paranoid, and that we risk damaging the trust of Muslim neighbors, and perhaps terrifying them-many who have faced genocide and inter-ethnic or national violence in their previous homes-into believing that America is no different than the rest of the world, he was undeterred. The enemy is here! Religion of peace? Ha! There are 1.6 billion Muslims, and if 10% want to kill us…it took him a while to do the math…that means 160 million Muslims! You Liberals, he froths, just don’t get that we are threatened from without and from within.

I say first of all, no offense, but you’re an idiot. It’s alright, he calls me an idiot sometimes too. He’s just wrong about it though. The 10% is made up. There never have been any poles. That was a number Sean Hannity and other right wingers began repeating as if there had been a study done. Never has been. Never was. No such number. And don’t send me this article or that estimate. they are simply repeating the same falsehood. And if 10% of Muslims do hate us, guaranteed it started after 2003 when Bush and Cheney and the right decided to make all this mess about religion rather than about a broader issue of justice.

Second, I tell him, though he’s sort of still seething from the idiot remark, he wants to look at everything as a chicken little, good cowboy/bad cowboy sort of way: Muslims bad, Americans(and Israel) good. Rather, this is how I view the world. The fat white guy who cut me off in his Hummer with an up-raised middle finger a half hour ago is far more of an immediate threat to me and my day than ISIS. the right wing Tea Party idiot in congress, like Texas republican Jack Carter, who votes to slash food stamps to hungry families but approves of hundreds of billions going to corporations is way more of a threat to me than ISIS. the cop who pepper sprays a young girl for protesting proven illegal foreclosures by bankers who will never see a day in jail and will likely be paid a bonus is an exponentially greater threat to me than ISIS. Likewise, the Senator saying the science isn’t in on the climate crisis, with oil company money in his pocket is, well…

ISIS is a danger, so are white supremacists, fascist vegans, fascist Christians, drunken Cubs fans who piss everywhere in the neighborhood, fascist Jews, bigots, the lady at the grocery store who was a complete bitch last night, the retired white guy who thinks the gas station where I’ve just run in for gas while trying to get to work is his own private lottery casino, people who use Socialist as a pejorative, Liberals who dodge the word liberal, people who call themselves libertarians without knowing what the word really means(hint, it isn’t a republican without religion), the Arab guy racing through traffic ala Baghdad driving rules yesterday, people who don’t pick up after their dogs, anyone in the Tea party, 44.5% of the Democrat party, 69.8% of the Republicans, Black guys who become president and then bend over backwards to be white, anyone left or right who starts an argument with “the founding fathers…” or “Thomas Jefferson once said…”, ex-congressmen who become radio hosts and people who blame women for being hit or sexually assaulted. And, above all I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate BULLIES! Of any kind.

the real threats to my life and existence and the happiness of my wife and family boils down to one simple club. It’s a big club, and I spend my days either doing my damnedest to avoid them or fight against them. I know they exist, but they aren’t just in Iraq and Syria right now, they are everywhere. Hell, I admit to being one from time to time. The world would be so much better if we all realized that simple fact, and stopped subdividing these people down to this group or that group and simply called them out for the collective misery they perpetrate on the rest of us.

Until that day I am just trying to get through my day without dealing with assholes. When they pop up and refuse to go away then the world hammers them back into the dark hole they came from…

Take a cue from the Hong Kong protesters on fair elections…and third parties.

Wonder why they are protesting in Hong Kong? If you listen to the US media you may or may not get the full story, or any of the story for that matter. See, protests about freedom and free elections are potentially dangerous to the status quo in this country. The media is the arbiter of the status quo. The media here is framing it as students, but like Occupy and the environmental movement, every generation is represented.

The protest is over their right in Hong Kong to choose their own candidates, rather than have some oligarchical politburo narrow the choices while guaranteeing the “right” person remains in charge. Hundreds of thousands of Hong Kong citizens have rejected that manipulation and perversion of democracy and demand the basic and fundamental right to decide whom represents them best. Think the United States is somehow better? Guess again.

The truth is, the democratic-communist hybrid system in China, for all its corruption and old guard hegemony, is absolutely more transparent and honest than ours. We talk democracy but hardly practice it at all. When was the last time you had a real hand in choosing a presidential, or even a congressional candidate? the media, corporations and government apparatchiks maintain a well-crafted illusion of a democratic process. Talk radio makes you feel like your voice is valuable. The only nominal wild card in the party A or party B, manufactured, marketed and paid for candidates is which of the two banal cookie cutter figureheads will prevail the day after the election. But as we have seen with media attempts to brazenly manipulate turn out, and with republican efforts to disenfranchise millions of American voters, there are evolving efforts to help eliminate even that variable.

But choice, real choice? That has been stolen from you to such an extent that most Americans simply play the two party game without even realizing an alternative. This country must move to a multi-party system or risk sliding into something our founding fathers feared openly. They eschewed national political parties, and feared a two party system would pervert and subvert the constitution, and with that our basic rights and freedoms. But alternative third, fourth, fifth…parties are routinely marginalized, ignored, barred from debates, refused coverage by the media and kept off ballots. If you think we’ve seen too many Bush’ or Clintons already, if you are a free market person then you must admit the lack of competition is stagnating and corrupting the current system.

You wouldn’t tolerate only being able to choose Coke or Pepsi at the market, especially if you knew there were hundreds of other choices out there, but the store refused to let them in the door, and went to far as preventing all other stores from selling them. Why tolerate that purposeful narrowing of choice in something as eternal, historic and life and death as an election? That’s what Occupy was clambering for and that’s why they are in the streets facing a Chinese army and government with a bloody history of reprisals against those who challenge the status quo.

Next time you cheer the authorities here for beating and pepper-spraying protesters, think of China. Those aren’t mindless communist robot soldiers, they are usually kids taken from the poorest regions in the country and thrown into a position in which they have to choose between assailing fellow citizens or losing the only paying job keeping their family alive back home. The US system has done that with police, placing them in the unfair and untenable position of being the blunt force weapon of the oligarchs. We should take a cue from the protesters in Hong Kong who are focused fully on the long term of being an agent in their own futures and fates, rather than simply being the production pool for corporations, and the reactionary tool for government.

The Case Against an Oil-based Economy

Sean Hannity in his propaganda screed the other day was unequivocal. He has, in the past few months been involved in “getting America back to work,” on his radio show and FOX News network. In reality it has been a commercial for tar sands and fracking. Revolution and Beer in a series of shows with environmental activist Dr Lora Chamberlain, and in an earlier blog showed that the promise of high paying jobs in North Dakota’s Bakken Oil fields was a dangerous illusion.

We brought to you the voices of people currently working there on the lack of housing, and what was available was going for confiscatory prices. Hannity’s Shangri-oil in North Dakota had made life dangerous for women, bred crime, caused significant pollution and left many stranded and destitute in the winter-harsh climes of the North West. Still Hannity and others claimed there was a near endless supply of jobs in excess of $100 thousand per year salaries. On his show this week, despite his industry guests saying that most jobs started at $30-40,000, he kept quoting jobs at $90,000 or more, in a pitch that would make a school-yard crack dealer blush. Then he said something even more obscene, but true: That the US is an oil-driven economy.

I couldn’t argue, because, sadly it is true, and that is not a good thing. In fact for our economy, for stability and for our future it is more than just potentially disastrous, it is disaster in which the clock is already ticking. The economics are simple, and there are glaring and recent examples that prove that eventuality.

Recently the Dutch Safety Board released preliminary findings on the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 over Ukraine in July. The report fell far short, and left more questions than answers. It also did not provide a backdrop to the disaster and the significant geopolitical and economic issues that contributed to the shooting down of a commercial airliner and the loss of all 298 on board. But those factors are significant and involve a superpower land grab for oil and gas concerns in eastern Ukraine-site of the bitterest fighting- and the Crimea. In a previous piece Revolution and Beer detailed much of that oil and gas rush, and named names. See “Obama’s missteps as tension mounts between NATO and Moscow. An excerpt from the upcoming book, “A TRAGIC FATE: Politics, Oil, the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17and the Looming Threats to Civil Aviation” by Revolution and Beer’s WC Turck.”

The Russian economy is almost solely based on oil and gas, by most estimates around 70%, which is an astounding and frightening number. Their budget depends on a barrel price of around $114. The current price, as of this writing for a barrel of Brent Crude is about $97/barrel. A tactic of the Obama administration’s sanctions against Russia- targeting primarily oil and gas concerns, has been to force down the cost of oil in order to strangle the Russian economy. Putin has replied by stoking military action as the one card he has to play in order to shock the market, maintain a modicum of insecurity and keep the prices as high as possible. In the short term the big oil and gas concerns in the West will suffer, but in the long term they will reap untold rewards. Russian firms and banks, and the whole of the Russian economy is on a long slow slide to insolvency because of the state of its infrastructure, a lack of technical capability and reliance on oil and gas.

But to a lesser extent the US economy is far too dependent on oil and gas as well. That dependency, as reserves and supplies mature, peak and decline will drag the US economy down as well. It also leaves us vulnerable to manipulation from foreign threats. No rational industry analyst believes that the US could ever supply its entire domestic and oil needs at current usage. Everyone agrees that oil and gas are finite resources that eventually will run out, or at the very least become cost prohibitive as research and extraction costs far outpace profits. It is also true that, at current technology, green energy alone could not support the US energy and transportation needs fully. Of course the argument to that is that in 1987 current technology could not support modern cellphone technology.

Green tech, most especially electric vehicles, and solar and wind power could currently offset a significant portion of the country’s needs at current technology. The effort must be, for all of those who believe that the country faces significant threats from abroad, must acknowledge that a preeminent reliance on oil is a virtual gun to the head of the nation. Reliance on renewable sources of energy, and in research to expand the availability and reliability of renewable is the only thing that will ultimately protect us from being blackmailed, or having our economy collapsed. The benefits resonate far beyond the growing threats to the nation, and include a boom in green jobs and a benefit to our environment. One is a short-sighted view by those simply interested in profits and those looking for long term viable solutions.

It is all rather like the squirrel in autumn who collects nuts without building an adequate nest through the winter, and the squirrel who collects enough nuts while also building an adequate nest that will protect it and its offspring from a harsh winter. It is really a rather simple lesson

No time for solemn memorials on September 11th. How about a few trials instead: A new rant from the FILTHY PUNDIT(He ought to have his mouth washed out with soap) Politics, way over the %$#@ing top!………………..

I have no time or patience for the politician’s national weep fest in their fake commemorations of the September 11 attacks. I grieve for the innocent dead, but that also includes the 600,000 dead Iraqi civilians, 100 thousand innocent Afghanis, dead Yemenis and Pakistanis killed by drones, millions of foreclosure victims in the United States, Michael Brown and all those killed by a militarized police. And I weep for our lost freedoms. How are all of those connected?

There are still too many unanswered questions about the attacks, but this is not about conspiracy. More and more, however, I am of the opinion that my government allowed the attacks to happen. Even if that wasn’t the case, they took advantage of the attacks, along with the media and corporations to further really greedy and cynical ends.

The attacks that Tuesday stunned the average American. I was on a flight line at O’Hare, walking from plane to plane with a wrench in my hand prepared to do battle with terrorists who had just calming commandeered 4 commercial aircraft and flown them into buildings. What the hell was I thinking? The chain of events from that day ultimately led me to get injured on the job and be forced to leave a job, until that day, that I truly loved. The second tower hadn’t come down yet when a Black friend and coworker simply shook his head and said “this country is going to use this as an excuse to go after brown people.”

I wasn’t buying it, but I am still waiting to see us fight the so-called war on terror against a single Caucasian country. I am still waiting for us to go to war against a country of brown people that also doesn’t shockingly NOT HAVE OIL. Funny how all that worked out. It was almost as if the Project for a New American Century group, whose ranks became much of the Bush team, like Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld and Kristol, had planned the whole thing. A year before the attacks they released a paper outlining the future course for the US designed to keep the country as the preeminent world power and to gain strategic control over resources around the planet, ya know, like oil. They just said that to achieve that goal the American people would have to be galvanized in a “Pearl Harbor type event.” Imagine the luck when those crazy Arabs took over our good Christian planes and flew them into two American symbols of power; the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

America went to war around the planet-against brown people who live on oil rich lands-for 10 years. All total we are looking at around a million dead. But that includes foreigners, and today you won’t hear a word about them. We’ll only hear about the important ones; 5000 soldiers killed with 100 thousand wounded and crippled, and 3000 killed in the Towers and the Pentagon. But wait there is more! The banks and corporations used the cover of the attacks to merge with government in this cancer-like symbiosis. They used that relationship to reconstitute law, to write and rewrite laws that led to millions of Americans being foreclosed on, losing their jobs and more. We saw a police once tasked to “Protect and Serve” become the enforcement mechanism for corporations and banks, and the control arm of the government.

Before 9-11 the “government is us” was the refrain, now unless you are a millionaire or billionaire and backed by a corporate interest, you have no chance of getting into any meaningful government position. It is simply assumed now that a man or woman gets into politics to further their own ambitions. Once there ALEC, run by the Koch brothers, the American Legislative Exchange Council, will write the laws and their cronies in congress will put them into law which the police will enforce. There is no first or fourth amendment anymore. There is no fifth or 14th amendment anymore, but there is the 2nd amendment for white people. They will be the neighborhood enforcement militias if the coloreds get uppity.

And that IS where the revolution will start, because the minority communities in this nation really have nothing to lose. They’ll be joined by the immigrant community who came here really believing in freedom. White folks? They’re so terrified after 9-11, it is all WE can do to cling to our empty 401ks, what remains of our middleclass at the expense of the rest of the world dream and a gun.

But this was all by design. This was all to the advantage of a class of people who have gotten richer and freer while the rest of the nation has atrophied. Forgive me if I don’t kneel before the flag, because it is an obscene symbol on a day in which we should be mourning the dead and exalting a nation that rose from the ashes to become something better and brighter and stronger. Instead, we took the opposite road…

do I hate America? No, but we went off down a seedy trail, and I hate the way we ended up. I grew up in a country wanting to be better, and better is an eternal process. Instead we got a country greedily grasping for more, and more is a never ending word.

The facts on minimum wage and the Economic rapists of the Illinois Policy Institute

. A new rant from the FILTHY PUNDIT(He ought to have his mouth washed out with soap) Politics, way over the %$#@ing top!………………..Too harsh? Think about the death grip on our culture, the way workers, families and communities have been literally economically raped by perversely powerful, and obsessively greedy interests of extremist capitalism. I have been warned that calling out the powerful too honestly and too vociferously would get me branded as a pariah and someone who didn’t know how to “play the game.” I refuse to be a part of a media that allows the people to be tricked by groups like the Illinois Policy Institute, a nebulous group whose funding tentacles reach to the Koch brothers, according to a new report by Progress Illinois. Their agenda: to roll back civil liberties by seeming to support civil liberties. The proverbial wolf in sheep’s clothing, the IPI made some statements on a local morning rightwing show about minimum wage. The IPI prefers eliminating the minimum wage in favor of a market based wage. In other wards, they favor predatory wages, as in the case of Walmart in which that national cancer destroyed the generations old job base in favor of low wage jobs and the resulting addiction to cheap Chinese and third-world made goods. The IPI says the raise in minimum wage would only benefit 5% of the workforce, but neglect to add that that represents about 11 million people, given, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics national workforce Figure, adjusted from 2005 numbers of about 160 million workers. 11 million heads of households! Remember in the 1990s economists were telling us to prepare for the service economy? Well fuck me with a dictionary! It’s here! As they told us that their crony capitalist pals were moving all the manufacturing jobs overseas, Romney’s Bain capital was carving up profitable companies and the banks were plotting ways to fuck millions of homeowners in a housing scheme. But here’s the real benefit, by the numbers, of raising the minimum wage.  Even at a paltry $10.10 an hour, the net gain to the  economy over the current in tax revenues alone would be around $20 billion, and would add around %30 billion additional in consumer spending, which I’m guess would spur a few jobs. It’s simple, multiple the wage amount by 40 hours average, time 4 weeks in a month, 12 months in a year…hardly rocker science. The raising of the minimum wage has always led to an upturn in the economy on the consumer side, but IPI represents predatory corporations and business interests who hope you remain clueless. I’m guessing that those who dismiss me as liberal can’t work  a calculator or really love sucking dick. I can’t help you. There’s no cure for stupid.

White as snow and dumb as bricks in Edwardsville. A new rant from the FILTHY PUNDIT(He ought to have his mouth washed out with soap)

Politics, way over the %$#@ing top!………………..Population, 24,600. Race: 86.7% white, and apparently one Asian guy representing the .01% demographic. Median household income: $73 grand. Number of siblings sired at family reunions between cousins: Undetermined. Wikipedia gives the population of Edwardsville Illinois at 24, 293. The 2010 census says 24,663. The population, I suspect moves up and down depending upon the local giardia bacteria and fracking chemicals seeping into the water supply on a given day, or the number of late term abortions rescued by the local evangelical congregation from sorority pledges impregnated by Frat house parties at nearby Southern Illinois University. On Friday, August 15, 2014, and Monday, August 18, 2014, Dennis Cramsey, EHS Principal groused to students and faculty that parents were bereaved by mention of events of Ferguson and Michael Brown in classroom discussions. Obviously deferring to the parental politburo, Comrade Cramsey banned discussions of a critical conversation in the current American social and political landscape. The 26 or so black students at EHS, all of which are on the basketball team have super singing voices and could totally do background for Beyonce could not be reached for comment. Great lesson to teach, confront complex and difficult issues by ignoring them, but then what did we expect after decades of this Oprah-esque protect the innocence of my precious babies until their 40 and the trust fund kicks in banality. And the republican and faux-Christian assholes boot-licking for corporatists who used them to fuck with teachers unions by coddling a generation of weasily little brats who run home with their surreptitious videos to inform on teacher’s liberal blasphemy, or dare I say, the teacher’s supposed 1st amendment rights like some neo-Soviet urchins, or Hitler-fucking-youth. Buy a gun a big truck and work a suck dick job off your Walmart salary. Knowin’ shit is for pussies and liberals who believe in all that global warming, type-diabetes is bad unwhite world. Oo, I hate that Obama Kenyan guy! In a perfect world we’d fire this asshole Cramsey and then make him walk up and down in front of the school for a week with a sign reading: “Principal wanted. Assholes, Fascists and Dipshits need not apply. If you do, we’ve got a sign for you too.” But I’ll bet that Edwardsville like’s their American Taliban principal and will find some lawyerly way of making stupid seem like part of the American way.

Europe, Ukraine, Gas and the superpower sandwich. A new rant from the FILTHY PUNDIT (He ought to have his mouth washed out with soap)

Did Europe just become the bitch to the United States over the issue of gas exports from Russia? That’s how things are beginning to look as winter approaches and the disruption of gas from Russia amid the Ukraine crisis could lead to higher fuel costs and crash the EU’s already sluggish climb out of recession. Yesterday a semi-fossilized Senator John McCain said that he is working on a plan to alleviate Europe’s gas concerns within 2 years. Russia and the US have been using Ukraine’s strife in a gas and oil grab. The US targets the gas rich northeast region and Russia got huge reserves off the Crimean Black Sea coast. They could give a shit for Ukraine’s independence of the glorious ascendency of ethnic Russians in Crimea. It is about the oil. It’s always about the oil. The US could care less about Russian trade, which this country can piss away in a day of spending, but to the Europeans, particularly for winter heating gas that trade is sort of important. Unless you think its a good thing to freeze off some old Euro-grandmas? The US has pushed trade sanctions hard, using the emotion of the crash of MH-17 to drill it home and turn Europe from an emerging power broker and player in the Ukraine issue into a beggar unsure whether to kick the dead of the Malaysian crash and fuck over Ukraine’s EU aspirations by sucking Russian dick over gas to protect its economy, or if it should bend over and take it in the ass from the United States and hope for a half-hearted reach-around, likely by McCain. Either way, for the Europeans, and the Ukrainians, being trapped in the middle between to bigger and more powerful pimps like Russia and the US means eventually you are going to have to blow someone. Now how is that for cogent analysis of complex international and geo-political topics?

Not a Riot, but a Rebellion! Are you $%#@ing kidding me? A new rant from the FILTHY PUNDIT(He ought to have his mouth washed out with soap) Politics, way over the %$#@ing top!………………..This is how the headline should read: “Overnight, Police again refused to engage community leaders, Employ war tactics.” Every black person I talked to yesterday was pissed off about the events in Ferguson Missouri in the aftermath of the shooting death of unarmed 18 year old Michael Brown. CNN reporter Ryan Reilly reported being harassed and bullied by police last night. Christ, the cops are dressed like fucking occupation forces in combat boots, camouflage fatigues and fuck MACHINE GUNS. In FUCKING AMERICA! There was unrest again overnight and strangely it is becoming more difficult to defend any action or any reasonable need for the continued sheltering of the officer accused of shooting Brown. In a piece the day after the shooting I criticized the police and city for failing to invite protest and community leaders to a conversation which would have immediately diffused the tension and emotion. They didn’t so much as send out a city garbage man even to speak with the community. Instead the police immediately drew battle lines against American citizens, and sought to muddy the waters with disinformation paraded as fact in the face of substantially conflicting witness statements, the location of the body and execution style shots to the head and chest that ended Brown’s life. The officer had randomly and ostensibly stopped Brown for jaywalking. Fucking jaywalking! After the shooting, officials said that the officer was treated at a hospital for injuries, a common union trick. Through rightwing media filters, spin and lies by now the cop is blind, missing an eyebrow and as disfigured as the lady who had her face chewed off by that chimp. But if, in fact, the officer was actually assaulted, why wasn’t Brown’s companion, Dorian Johnson, who recalled the officer pulling up in an SUV and shouting “Get the fuck out of the road,” arrested? There isn’t even a warrant issued. He recalled, corroborated by independent witnesses, that the officer reverse the vehicle and grabbed Brown by the neck then shot him once before Brown broke away and urged his friend to run. The unarmed Brown was then shot dead in the middle of the street. And so when righteously angry people turned out enmasse instead of answers or respect they got a giant “Fuck you” from authorities. Images evoke Mississippi and Alabama during the 1960s. So forgive me if I don’t write pieces to calm people down or plead for Blacks to control themselves. Hard to take the high road when you are being fucked on the low road. We have become a nation under occupation by a pseudo military police no longer charged with serving and protecting the public but controlling the public. With the suck-dick entertainment culture of this society, that only becomes apparent when the state runs over some kid and emotion and anger boils over. That means nobody was paying attention before that kid got run over. A hand full were bitching without action, a hand full were acting without engaging the community and the rest were watching some fucking reality TV show. The black community already feels the occupation and control. The rest of us just think the state wants to keep us all safe from terrorists, you gullible fucks. Time for everybody to wake the fuck up and realize when this shit breaks it will break hard. Blacks, immigrants and minorities know t heir civil rights are a joke. Blacks knew when they were slaves. White fold remain clueless. You could work to fix this before it breaks, by, say making sure this is a free society, reigning in the police and state, demilitarizing the society and realizing that white people essentially live on a desert island of privilege, but the tide is rising. You are either with the tide or drowned by it. The choice is yours.
